Thank you Mr. I Need Ice from the Ice Machine at 6:58 a.m. Our room is not that far from the ice machine, and the ice machine isn't very quiet... Grrrr!

One of the times that I was doing research at the national archives, I shared a hotel floor with an entire 8th grade field trip. Our stays only overlapped for a day. I was pretty impressed with their restraint on what was their last night---there was very little running in the hallway, shouting, etc.

Then 6 am came. And the filling of the coolers for the bus trip home. The ice machine was about 15 feet from my room. The sound of a million coolers being filled with the contents of an entire hotel ice machine, combined with squeaky 8th grader voices (low with squeaky cracks a la Peter Brady from the boys) will never leave my memory.
